Som'ma
A San Francisco based Ensemble, Som'ma lives in different bodies
at different times and the form which the group takes changes
with each different idea and concept unique to the bands lineup
of virtuoso performers and composers.
Som'ma has been actively creating and performing exciting, new
& otherwise avant-garde music and concepts. The music has
been anywere from strict Persian classical music to Middle Eastern
fusion and even Jazz, Rock & Electronica collaborations.
Using the rich Persian classical background as well as other
cultures to generate the only band of its sort. Somma's musical
adventure continues bringing influential and innovative music

Meanings se-ma (semma)
Part of the inspiration of Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi (1207-
1273) Sema, in Sufism, means listening to music, singing and
chanting to attain a state of religious emotion and ecstasy,
it is a spiritual concert. The word for dancing was 'Raks',
but today sema alone is almost synonymous with dancing (semazen
in this context means 'dancer') which is an essential part of
the ceremony and 'Zikr' is the remembrance of God by the repeated
enunciation of short invocations. so·ma2

- An intoxicating or hallucinogenic beverage, used as
an offering to the Hindu gods and consumed by participants
in Vedic ritual sacrifices.
- The body of an individual as contrasted with the mind
or psyche.
